BIOCAPACITY OF BRAZILIAN BIOMES USING EMERGY ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT CONCEPTS

Abstract This work aimed to assess Brazilian biomes’ biocapacity (BC) using concepts of the Emergy Ecological Footprint method. Climate and forest cover data were interpolated Kriging In 2016, BC was among largest in world, 42.11 gha / cap. The coverage areas investigated simulated two scenarios: optimistic (with 100% coverage) pessimistic (only 10%). Amazon’s contribution half would reduce by 88% a scenario. Atlantic Forest only 1.9% national BC, however, an scenario, it increase 690%. reduction deforestation, fires expansion protected law are measures that positively impact studied biomes. methodology can be used as environmental quality indicator adheres principles Sustainable Development.
